Edited to add: I’ve chosen this post as my favorite Junkin Find for 2010 to link to Linda’s Junkin Finds Friday party. Hope you like this find as much as I did.
I still haven’t officially found a home for this piece, right now it’s in the hall outside the upstairs bathroom, waiting for me to decide if I want to use it for towel storage and such. Maybe in 2011 I’ll write about this one again…..
That’s right, a china cabinet sitting out at the curb with a free sign on it. I was on my way home from work yesterday and passed by it. One quick look and I knew I had to go back.
The glass is missing, but everything else was with it.
Especially the key.
The 2 shelves were sitting on the bottom.
I just love the wood cut-out that goes over the glass.
The 2 tone detailing is understated, yet pretty.
The lines are simple.
A couple scratches along the side are the only thing wrong with this other than the missing glass.
I think I’m in love.
So now I must ‘fess up.
I have 2 more of these in my storage space right now.
Does 3 make a collection?
Maybe I should group them together? ;)
I actually spent $15 for one of them. Can you guess which one it was?
There is something about these old cabinets that speaks to me. It could be because my Gramma had one at her house and kept all sorts of cool stuff in it (besides dishes).
We would examine everything through the glass each time we visited, and on rare occasions she would unlock it so we could get a closer look.
Ah, what was it that Proper Prim Deb wrote about in a recent post?
Memory hunting. That’s it! So true. Check it out if you haven’t read it yet.
Gotta go now, it’s trash day somewhere…..

Linking this up to Linda’s Nifty Thrifty Tuesday #23 over at Coastal Charm.

Wow, how great is free! My grandma also had a china cabinet close to the same design. Only more glass. I love 'em.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you had a vehicle to fit it in.
I want to live in your neighborhood! I never see anything but trash set out at the curb around here. The china cabinets are lovely. I like the one you found yesterday the best. I'll bet you paid $15 for the one with the green paint still on it.

Oh Rose, I have one very similar to your new one and I paid $450.00 for it... it is full of clocks, no dishes... I like your Gramma's way of thinking... I can't believe you found that for FREE... and the key what a bonus... you have to find a spot for that one in your house for sure... we will have to work on that in August...lol
ReplyDeleteHugs, Deb

ReplyDeletewow! my chin was on the floor reading this post. i have never seen a cabinet like this/these where i am from. i don't know how you find all these curb finds...i am so jealous. we have "junk" month once a year and occasionally i will see a furniture piece at the curb from time to time but nothing like weekly or monthly. lol
ReplyDeletei would love to see these three beautiful pieces refurbished some how. :)

amyW.
Hey, how come I can never find anything like this like you do! ;p
ReplyDeleteWhat I would love to do to it... I would paint it in a funky color and make it into my garage storage to hold my paint items such as rollers, tapes etc, things are that are light. I could use some more storage in my garage.
Thanks for sharing! :)
Stopping by from Nifty Thrifty Tuesday! Awesome! I love free and I love furniture so that is perfect for me! We live out in a rural area so I rarely find anything at the curb!
ReplyDeleteHow cool!! MY husband (who does not like getting things from the side of the road)loves it and said he would have grabbed it!! Where do you live? I want to move there! My guess is the $15 dollar one is the brown one. Thnks so much for sharing.
ReplyDelete:) Michelle
Great find. It would look great with screening in it instead of glass. Yes, I beleive 3 of anything is considered a collection.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! I'd say you really scored big on this curby find!! I think I like this one best too of all your cabinets! Have fun with it! Julie
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous!!! I gave $175 for one similar to this (had the glass) and drove over 125 miles to get it!!! Now I'm debating on whether to paint it...the man who I got it from told me that it was solid mahogany...maybe your's is also!!!
