I would so love to have you all join me on a curbshopping expedition this morning. Sometimes it really stinks when you find something great and there’s nobody around to share the excitement! You would “get it”, right? You know, the heart stopping moment when you spot something interesting up ahead in the distance?
So let me take you along on a recent expedition (last Wednesday morning to be exact) This is a tour of my favorite neighborhood to shop, I told you about it in my post over at Gail’s blog, here.
Oh, we are off to a good start already! Look at this!
A cute wood framed mirror peeking out of a trash bin. Score!
or what about this………..
It’s the bottom half of an old wooden youth chair, very sturdy.
And a chair seat.
Could this become the basis of a sign? or maybe a chalkboard?
Yup, it is, but not so great. It had obviously been stored in a very wet basement. yuck! I think I’ll pass on that one.
Wood is always fun to find.
This plywood was in great shape, and I absolutely love the yellow and grey old Formica pieces. Definitely keepers there.
Look at this one, could that be a dresser? You don’t know me that well, but I think you may have already figured out my love for dressers (or chests of drawers as many of you call them).
A little closer view…….
Not a very good picture, but I was so excited I jumped out to get a closer look and didn’t get another shot of it.
The adrenaline was really pumping by this time.
Turns out it was really too far gone to pick up, but the decorative front leg piece, (see it sticking up out of the drawer opening?) it’s like that piece was waving me down, hoping I would stop to rescue it from the wreck. So of course, being the good Samaritan I am, I DID!
And then, buried underneath the ruined dresser I found the matching mirror….Sorry no picture of that in this batch, but it was a nice solid square wood framed mirror. And you will soon find out I have a passion for mirrors too…..so I snagged that for my collection. All in all this particular curb wasn’t so bad after all.
What do you think? Are we done for the morning?
We’ve got just one more street to cover in this neighborhood. Might as well check it out, right?
Aha!
I’m in love! It’s a small desk, youth size. I think I’m seeing a nightstand here, what do you see?
Ok, my heart is still pounding so hard! I think I got my fix for this morning, how about you?
Gotta go now, it’s trash day somewhere!
Rose
OMG! Where do you live?!!! I NEVER EVER see stuff like that where I live! I'm green with envy...
ReplyDeleteRose! great finds! Oh my, I love the desk, the first mirror, and you KNOW I'm a sucker for chairs! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have the makings of some great projects there! way to go!
gail
ps glad I could help ya out last night, I'm here anytime you need help.
ohhh and another ps
ReplyDeleteduh on me! Glaze on the giant faux clock! My brain must have been in a F O G!
Wow! I am absolutely JEALOUS of your curbshopping finds! Here in my Southern California city, all of the trash is divided up into three recepticals and it is frowned upon to put stuff on the curb. So for me to find something is rare and so exciting! I wish I could drive a neighborhood and look from left to right and see potential treasures like that! Great finds!!!!
ReplyDeleteLe Anne
Le Anne must live close to me! But It is still possible just not that much stuff in one day!! Great finds!
ReplyDeleteSounds like so much fun! That cute little desk...just asking for a transformation!
ReplyDeletebah, i wish i could curb shop like that but i think i would need a truck. and anything i ever spy, i spy on the way to work and usually i am arriving right on time so i can't stop to check anything out. not to mention the clothes i am wearing at the time, lol.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for your kind words on my sunroom, and for stopping by the cape on the corner!
You are so funny! I found your blog through Gail at my repurposed life and I just love reading it! You have great finds and are genuinely creative! Thanks for sharing all your curb finds, they are always so much more fun when you share them with someone who gets the excitement of it!
ReplyDeleteOh Gail you are a riot...Oh how I would love to curbshop with you... I love that little youth desk... you hit paydirt that day... people don't put stuff like that out around here... every garbage day I take a different route and I never find a thing... the only thing I find on the side of the road is roadkill and a few deer eating breakfast... it sucks living in the country sometimes... lol
ReplyDeleteHugs, Deb
You're good...there is an association in my neighborhood... they won't even let you have a yard sale.. .. I live in Chandler Arizona..be warned all you potential curb shoppers.. there's no treasure allowed here.. I'm so jealous....
